Air Quality
Ambient air quality monitoring was undertaken for carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3), sulphur dioxide (SO2), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), particulate matter of aerodynamic diameter less than 10 microns (PM10), and particulate matter of aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 microns (PM2.5). These measurements were undertaken in order to determine the background/baseline air quality concentration for use in the air quality assessment. Given that air pollutants are emitted into the atmosphere from a variety of sources and the concentration of pollutants in the ambient air depends not only on the quantities that are emitted but also the conditions and ability of the atmosphere, either to absorb or disperse these pollutants, an understanding of the behaviour of meteorological parameters is very important. Therefore, meteorological parameters such as atmospheric temperature and relative humidity were also measured at all the monitoring points.
