Water Quality
The surface water quality of the specified rivers in the TRANSCO CLSG Project Area in Sierra Leone was studied by carrying out in-situ measurements and grab sampling for laboratory analysis in order to characterize the hydrology of the major rivers and to generally assess the quality of surface water in the project area.
The results of the water quality analysis have been compared with available international (WHO, IFC/WBG, and US-EPA) standards or guidelines. At all the six monitoring points in the five rivers monitored the following parameters were analysed:
- Temperature
- pH
- Colour
- Barometric Pressure
- Turbidity
- Electrical Conductivity (EC)
- Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
- Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP)
- Dissolved Oxygen (DO)
- Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
- Total Hardness
- Total Alkalinity
- Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
- Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)
- Nitrate
- Nitrite
- Phosphates
- Oils and Fats
- Total Coliform and Faecal Coliform
- Heavy Metals
